New to NYC, I soon learnt how deeply misleading the MTA is: a transfer from the F train to the 6 train involves four sets of escalators before even going aboveground. Doing it in rush hour no less, I sang parts of what became this melody between clenched teeth and wondered if Mark Turner ever had days like this…

David Bertrand is an emerging voice on flute with an approach that draws heavily from the lexicon of modern jazz saxophone.

He leads a quartet devoted to playing his original music in a singular style that integrates the rhythms of his native Trinidad’s folkloric traditions with modern jazz. David plays in several NYC groups and teaches through the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
